WAXING ADVICE

Below is some of our most helpful pre and post waxing information to help ensure the best possible result from the treatment.

How to prepare for a waxing session
The best way to prepare yourself is to first relax and know you're in good hands. We are very well trained and experienced. Our goal is to make this treatment as pleasant as possible and to help you be as comfortable with the procedure as possible.

Prepare your skin:

Stop shaving.  Stop shaving/trimming 3 weeks prior to your 1st appointment. We recommend shaving/trimming your hair to the skin then schedule your appointment 3 weeks from that point. Please do not "touch up" your hair within this 3 week period. Short hair does not wax well and will be more painful. If you are not a shaver/trimmer and go natural we ask that you trim your hair to one inch for best results.

Cleanse. Please shower the day of your waxing so that you will be fresh and clean. Use a gentle soap to clean the area.  Avoid using very hot water as this may irritate your skin. Freshening wipes are always provided at BareWAXX, both in the bathroom and treatment rooms so that you may refresh before your wax.  For all Brazilian/Bikini and Between the Cheeks waxing, please use a personal wipe prior to service regardless of when you washed the area last to ensure a clean environment for waxing.

Exfoliate. A MUST!!! Thoroughly exfoliate the area getting waxed (below the neck) the day before, your skin will be too sensitive if you exfoliate the day of your appointment. Use an exfoliating glove/mitt and liquid body wash, rub in circular motions, be gentle, avoid irritating your skin by rubbing too hard. Exfoliation will remove dead cells on the surface and around the base of each hair, helping the wax stick to the hair closer to the opening giving a better grip and giving you a smoother wax. It will also lessen the chance of dead skin blocking hair follicles and help to prevent ingrown hairs and breakouts.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturizeA MUST!! It is extremely important to keep your skin moisturized, dry skin does not wax well and hair tends to break instead of releasing from the hair follicle.  Be sure to moisturize every day, this will not only keep your skin soft but will soften up the growing hair making it easier to remove and helps to prevent hair from boring into the skin. Please be sure to keep your skin moisturized between waxing. Moisturize your skin the night before and/or the morning of your waxing appointment.

Tips:

  • You'll want looser fitting clothing after your waxing, remember the idea is clean, cool, dry and friction free for whatever area post treatment not compression and sweat. It is a good idea to bring an extra clean pair of cotton underwear for bikini and Brazilian waxing, for chest and back waxing, you may want to bring a clean soft cotton t-shirt to wear after waxing, and for leg waxing you may want to wear shorts, loose pants or sweatpants after waxing.
  • Avoid sun exposure (natural. beds or sunless tan) 24 hours prior to appointment to avoid skin being sensitive and/or skin lifting. Sunburn skin cannot be waxed and a sunless tan may lift with the wax when removed causing skin to be blotchy.
  • Waxing can be extra sensitive to women taking birth control, hormone therapy, during pregnancy, and the menstrual cycle. It is best to avoid or limit smoking, caffeine and alcohol consumption the day of your appointment.
  • Give yourself a once over before you book to ensure your skin is free from irritation, cuts, scrapes, bruises, etc. treat them and wait until they are healed before waxing. Areas that have these and/or raised moles, skin tags, varicose veins etc. will need to be avoided and waxed around.

How to  care for your skin after a waxing treatment...

Remember the four keys to waxing success: Keep it clean, cool, dry and friction free!

Face and body waxing. During the next 24 to 48 hours:

  • Keep the waxed area clean, use warm water not hot and take showers not baths
  • Avoid scratching or touching freshly waxed areas as much as possible, always wash hands first
  • No saunas, hot tubs or steam rooms and no pedicures after leg waxes
  • No tanning (sunbathing, sun beds or sunless tans)
  • Avoid sweaty activities; no sport, gym work or other exercise
  • Avoid acidic products (glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid)
  • Avoid frictions: no tight clothing, wear clean, loose fitting clothing
  • Avoid swimming in pools or other swimming waters (ponds, lakes, etc)
  • Avoid highly fragranced products, do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products to the area, other than those recommended by me

Bikini/Brazilian waxing: During the next 24 to 48 hours:

  • ALL of the above recommendations PLUS:
  • No sexual activity, may produce swet, friction and bacteria
  • Take particular care with cleanliness after using the toilet, fragrance free moist wipes may be helpful to keep you cleaner.
  • Wear clean underwear, opt for cotton, boxers for men or no underwear at all.

Maintenance between appointments:

  • Exfoliate! Exfoliate! Exfoliate! A must!
  • Keep your skin moisturized!
  • To sooth and protect the skin, apply fragrance free aloe vera gel, 1% over the counter hydrocortizone cream and/or antiseptic cream to the waxed area regularly for 3 days.  Always wash your hands before applying any product.

Preventing ingrown hairs:

Ingrown hairs occur when a new hair can't break through the surface of the skin and it curls back into the pore, this often results in a spot. It is easier to prevent ingrown hairs, so 24 hours after your appointment or when skin is back to normal, gently exfoliate the skin daily by using a liquid body wash (no bar soaps) and exfoliating mitt/cloth with circular motions, which will prevent dead skin from blocking the hair follicle. If you are prone to ingrown hairs or begin to have issues with ingrown hairs we recommend that you also apply BHA exfoliating serum daily, which can penetrate the oil in the follicle and exfoliate inside. Moisturize the area every day, which will keep the skin supple and help new hairs to break through. If your still having issues with ingrown hairs call barewaxx and your esthetician will be happy help you.
